Multiculturalism
Most countries are, today, culturally diverse. This diversity gives rise to a series of important and potentially divisive questions. Minorities and majorities increasingly clash over issues such as language rights or immigration. Finding a morally defensible and politically viable answer to these problems, that keeps us in a multicultural mosaic and does not turn us into a melting pot, is the greatest challenge democracies have to face today.
Multiculturalism has the potential to promote a more effective society and economy by preserving links to immigrants’ communities. This has the potential to accelerate innovation and business development.
There are some steps we need to take. We need to encourage the protection and preservation of cultural values considered to be an outstanding value to humanity. Contributing to establish cultural tolerance and dialogue in the community is one of the duties of the society. We ought to work on attaining peace and helping to bring cooperation to world civilizations by working together as citizens of the world.
As a community, diversity is our strength. We have a great deal to learn from one another, which can enrich ourselves without undermining our identities.
Together, listening and reporting with open minds and respect, we can move forward promoting genuine differences but building on shared hopes and values, because beauty lies on difference.
